FAQs

Frequently asked questions to a Doula or Placenta Encapsulation Specialist

Do you perform any physical examinations?

NONE. I am not a Midwife or your health care provider. The only touching I do is to bring you physical comfort during pregnancy and labor. Offering education, physical and emotional support

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

The goal is for both of you to have the birth you want. Totally up to you if you want me as your #1 to comfort you or if want your partner. Will do everything in my nature to have your partner involved in any way possible. Intimacy helps!

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

I keep them informed of my client's preferences, advocate when the client needs me to. Respectfully out of the way but informing my client and their partner when they are confused or need a minute to decide without a provider or a nurse present

How do I tell the hospital that I want to encapsulate my placenta?

Best to tell your health care provider ahead of time before labor that you plan on taking the placenta home or have it picked up. After delivery, the umbilical cord and placenta are no longer needed. Unless donated, the umbilical cord and stem cells it contains are discarded as medical waste. Why toss it when I can transform it so it benefits you and baby?!

What if my doctor schedules me a c-section?

Scheduling a C-Section should only be if medically necessary and you can ask your doctor to wait until you are at least 39 weeks. As your doula, I will do everything in my power to avoid one; but sometimes one cannot be avoided and you will have to accept your new birth plan. I will do my best to have you exercise and prepare your body by stretching.

What are some of the risks of consuming placenta capsules/tinctures?

There are very little risks involved in consuming your placenta. The biggest risks would come from consuming a placenta that has not been stored or prepared properly. Be sure to follow instructions on how to store your placenta until your specialist(me) picks it up or you can have it dropped off at my location

What if my baby passed meconium in the womb? Can I still consume my placenta?

That's perfectly fine. Meconium is sterile. It is simply washed off(with ACV) prior to preparation. If you are unaware if you've had COVID-19 at any point we may not prepare the placenta if we feel it does not visually look well(or smell well). If the placenta looks normal, please know that this is still not a 100% effective method of determining the safety of ingestion

How should I consume my placenta pills and/or tincture?

Consumption recommendations are just a recommendation. NOT a prescription. You may adjust your intake as you feel you need to. We give a general suggestion on how to consume your capsules/tincture on the containers. We do recommend that you take your capsules with food to avoid an upset stomach. Your tincture should be strained with a mesh strainer or cheesecloth after 6 weeks, and the liquid should be poured back into the dropper bottle before use.
